At 19:39 Rahdo says it has to be on actual cards to score the places, but the starting tile also counts, so you already start with a footprint there too.
7:15 Corn hole with bean bags thrown at a hole in a wooden board thrown from standing behind the other board. Sort of like horse shoes or jarts aka lawn darts (which are illegal in the US because kids in the 70's hurt each other with them can you believe that). Corn hole is a noisy game when the large bean bags smack the wooden boards. I might have been helpful for the rulebook to tell us what some of the games are like this and the bocce ball aka lawn bowling. But it's a nice variety.
This game looks really nice, love the artwork. We typically don't like tile placing games, but this game seems to catch my interest. @rahdo looks like you've got some analysis paralysis going on :D
why did you put Jen's tourist, sport, wave card on top of the bike shop card? does it not get points if it's above the surf shop card? cause the surf shop card gives you 3 points that has a sport card adjacent to it. so it should be a total of 6 points, right? or wrong? I'm quite confused
They could do a Venice beach expansion (it’s just south of Santa Monica beach). That place is weird, they could do basically a scoundrels of skull port thing with it. I’ve seen a man selling puppies out of a duffle bag on Venice beach. I’ve seen a dog posing in a bikini for tips. Swarms of roller bladers. It’s an odd place.
When someone makes the foodie and truck meet they get the double bonus. At least that is how I read it. The next person chooses one or the other and then I believe you move the truck forward 2 spaces.
Thanx for the play thru and thought process. I read the rulebook pdf and it seemed like a confusing slow paced puzzle. But it looks pleasant. I have Cat Lady which the designer did and he's the artist. Did they send you a pre-release copy? My FLGS was going to have it for Board Game Expo Apr 4. They're open for now but not sure I want to make it out there. amazon had it listed for May but removed that date this week.
@@rahdo My FLGS had to shut down temporarily as a non-essential business. They do sell online. Barnes & Noble has order online drive up pick up. I'm glad I got out last week to get Wreck Raiders there 50% off the last one they had.

Thanks for the run-through. Playing tonight with my wife and she loves the art!

This game looks fantastic. Thanks for the run-through
It's cornhole, a popular yard game.
thanks! :)
@@rahdo And it's annoyingly loud when the bean bags hit the boards which happens often lol
15:11 I assume the the starting card counts towards the chain, so he has already a shop chain at this moment?
Okay, he realized it at 19:00 :)
This game reminds me a lot of cat lady and walking in burano . It has some mechanics of those games combined . The art looks cute tho.
this is from the ame designer as cat lady :)
14:25 is that Bocce?
that's the one!
@@rahdo I've only seen it played on grass. It's like bowling in a way. I"ll have to look up how it can be played on sand.

I'm thinking more of a Vegas expansion?
Miles T That could be cool though that would be more of a retheme than expansion.
I would really like a full playthrough of this game. I bought it, but I am having a hard time understanding the rules😱🙄
You should really get a t-shirt with '....BUT!...' on it ☺️

The designer clarified that the bonus is granted when the card is taken. The rules for this one are... challenging!

I would like someone to explain how to use the paper score pad at the end. Your video was great, as always!
these are the kind of questions that boardgamegeek's forums are perfect for! :) boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/298065/santa-monica/forums/0
Yep. Cornhole is the game.
At the beginning you said most of the time you will choose one of these three cards. There are four of course.
the cardassians got to me! :)

Haha! Nice!
What does the seagull do?

This game reminds me of Wingspan...
