In the abstract campus of Sylvellyn High School, students are ranked among seven tiers in a hierarchy promoted by the staff and the class. The more attractive, confident, rich, etc. you are, the higher you are and vice versa. James is a student who should be much higher on that chart, but is purposefully kept down due to his connections to an old kingpin. When said kingpin moves back to town and makes the top of the chart, James is determined to climb it no matter what, pulling off elaborate and immoral schemes to climb the ranks and reunite with his best friend.
