That's because sex negative anti porn feminism is rooted from an old Christian women's movement in the 1920s and rest comes from a homicidal woman in the 1960s and 70s with paranoid schizophrenia that was allegedly abused. Though that simplifies it a bit and I skipped over the time between since I dont have time to see if there are connections between the two. Prominent British social purity activists such as Francis Swiney and Elizabeth Wolstenholme Elmy believed that it was only through continence that wives would be able to establish equality with their husbands. Both famously called upon their fellow women to cease sexual relations with men in order to end sexual violence and women's subjugation. Swiney even argued that sexual desire was “not natural” and was likely part of unnatural patriarchy and its control. She was known for using eugenics to assert that women were the dominant sex, more evolved than men. For Swiney, women were destined to lead the human race to an egalitarian and asexual state. https://www.makingqueerhistory.com/articles/2018/6/3/early-asexual-feminists-the-asexual-history-of-social-purity-activists-and-spinsters It started with Velerie Solanas attempting to murder Andy Warhol. Here is a quick breakdown SCUM Manifesto is a radical feminist manifesto by Valerie Solanas, published in 1967. It argues that men have ruined the world, and that it is up to women to fix it. To achieve this goal, it suggests the formation of SCUM, an organization dedicated to overthrowing society and eliminating the male sex. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCUM_Manifesto Ti-Grace Atkinson, the New York chapter president of the National Organization for Women (NOW), described Solanas as "the first outstanding champion of women's rights"[65] and "a 'heroine' of the feminist movement,"[66][67] and "smuggled [her manifesto] ... out of the mental hospital where Solanas was confined."[66][67] According to Betty Friedan, the NOW board rejected Atkinson.[67] Atkinson left NOW and started another feminist organization.[68] According to Friedan, "the media continued to treat Ti-Grace as a leader of the women's movement, despite its repudiation of her."[69] Another NOW member, Florynce Kennedy, called Solanas "one of the most important spokeswomen of the feminist movement."[20][70] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valerie_Solanas Atkinson's time with the organization was tumultuous, including a row with the national leadership over her attempts to defend and promote Valerie Solanas and her SCUM Manifesto in the wake of the Andy Warhol shooting.[8] In 1968 she left the organization because it would not confront issues like abortion and marriage inequalities.[4] She founded the October 17th Movement, which later became The Feminists, a radical feminist group active until 1973. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ti-Grace_Atkinson According to Germaine Greer in The Female Eunuch (1970), The Feminists promoted not having leaders in society, "characterized men as the enemy," described "Love" as "the response of the victim to the rapist", and believed that "the proprietary relationship of marriage" and uterine pregnancy would "no longer prevail."[1] The Feminists held that women were oppressed by their internalization of patriarchal sex roles, and hence suffered from a kind of false consciousness. To liberate themselves from such oppressive roles, The Feminists held that the feminist movement must be entirely autonomous from men and eventually came to hold that women should be free of men in their personal lives as well. The group was strongly opposed to the sexual revolution, holding that it was simply a way for men to get easier access to women's bodies. Ti-Grace Atkinson was one of the first radical feminists to be specifically critical of pornography. They at first advocated that women practice celibacy, and later came to advocate political lesbianism. The separatist ideas of The Feminists were reflected in their membership quota, restricting women who lived with men to one-third of its members, and excluding married women entirely in 1971. After Atkinson's departure, The Feminists moved in the direction of advocating matriarchy and developing a "woman's religion", ideas that later came to be known as cultural feminism. Although The Feminists disbanded in 1973, they played an important role in the development of cultural feminism, separatist feminism, and anti-pornography feminism (Barbara Mehrhof later became an organizer for Women Against Pornography), tendencies that were predominant in radical feminism by the late 1970s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Feminists Manaban said: Lovely and unsurprising. Granted, given the prevalence of paranoid anti-sex attitudes in feminism I was willing to buy into as much. But that this is the religious right trying to dress up their endgame in feminist language is lmao. That isn't even all of it. She seems to be a low key racist. Take this Tweet and combine it with the article of porn turning everyone into rapists. Combined it seemingly implies she thinks if you like Japanese women it means you like to watch rape and also you're a rapist. https://twitter.com/lailamickelwait/status/1277078988221935616 Her Twitter is filled with her posting screen caps of vids some you can identify their faces iirc and also has screen caps of messages from various sources some have display pics of themselves (she at least censored out their name i think) but did she get consent to use these girls images for her goal to shut down PornHub and for her hidden agenda? Probably not. |

Let me get this straight: Nothing is wrong with porn itself or watching porn. It doesn't make you a bad person if you watch porn or if you film/star in porn. The issue is with the website, Pornhub. It is very easy to upload a video on the site and then subsequently monetize and profit from it. Pornhub takes very little to no responsibility with checking the videos that are uploaded to its site- 6 million videos are uploaded each year- so of course it would be impossible to check and regulate this many videos. This creates an issue, that being the alarming amount of videos of real rape, child sex trafficking, revenge porn and overall abusive videos hosted on Pornhub. Which are as said before, pretty much all monetized and making a profit for Pornhub itself and the people that upload it. To understand how many videos of this nature exist on Pornhub, for example according to the Internet Watch Foundation, in only two years they processed and confirmed 118 cases of child rape and trafficking on pornhub. And these videos arent actors or models, theyre REAL women and children, even men, who have been traumatized and then that trauma forever ingrained onto the internet. The biggest issue is that pornhub seemingly doesn't care- they have no way or system to verify the age or consent of anyone in the videos they host. Then when women who are in the videos of their rape request that the video is taken down Pornhub often ignores the request. For example, Rose Kalemba, who at the age of 14 was kidnapped and then raped, on camera for 12 hours. The videos were uploaded and after months of begging Pornhub to take the videos down, they only complied when she threatened to get legal action. As said by Rose, "I sent Pornhub begging emails. I pleaded with them. I wrote, 'Please, I'm a minor, this was assault, please take it down.'" "The year that followed I withdrew into myself. I disassociated," she recalls, "I felt nothing. Numb. I kept to myself." She would wonder, with every stranger who made eye contact with her, if they had seen the videos. "Had they got off to it? Had they gratified themselves to my rape?" I don't really think Pornhub will ever be taken down, as said by @Zefyris, even if Pornhub is taken down, it would almost immediately be replaced. I just think the first step is for people to realise that free porn comes at a cost of the women, children and even men who are in these videos. I'm sorry but 118 people is really not that much. As has been mentioned, millions of videos get uploaded there every year. If 118 cases out of 6 million are human trafficking then that means only 1 out of 50,847 videos are an issue. When are people going to realize that you can't wipe out every last trace of certain evils in the world? Not because its an unworthy goal but because its literally impossible. Do people honestly think that banning pornhub is going to stop human trafficking? I mean, if the girl wants to sue the company, then I'd say she's well within her rights to do so. Pornhub should be willing to pull its videos if requested to do so. I also think violent pornography, as a concept, should be significantly more restricted. Vanilla porn is all good with me but when it becomes violent I think its crossing a line. Of course banning pornhub won't stop human trafficking. The world doesn't change with just one action. But it's a start. The issue is that the victims literally reached out to pornhub to have their videos taken down and the site did not comply. They should already face legal repercussions just for that - posting people's pictures and videos without their permission is illegal. And please don't dismiss people's struggles as mere statistics. These 118 people are humans who have suffered immense trauma that they might not be able to forget for their whole life. Also, there are definitely more than those 118 that are just too afraid to speak up, because, you know, this kind of trauma really does run deep and not everyone has a strong mind. 150 people are killed every year from falling coconuts. Do not dismiss these tragedies as statistics. This is clearly a sign that we need to chop down all coconut trees. Imagine the trauma those people feel from seeing their loved one killed by coconuts? It won’t stop all pain in the world but it’s a good place to start. And let’s not even get into cigarettes and cars and how many those kill a year. The point is that we live in a world of 8 billion people. Bad things are going to happen in a world of 8 billion people. You can’t run around banning or getting rid of everything that might cause little bad things to happen. You should only do things this dramatic when it’s obvious that it is pervasive and endemic. Oh wow, you really used such a tasteless analogy. Fair enough, if 1 million people also petition to cut all coconut trees, then okay. Petitions are a way to hear the citizens' voice, and if that's 1 million people want, then they deserve to be heard. If the higher-ups debate around it and deem it to be the solution, then so be it. Just so you know, so many things can still come up during a hearing and the law could possibly provide a whole other compromise for the matter. Maybe another million of people would petition to stop that other petition. It's a tedious process, but this is how democracy works. It's supposedly built on its people. That is the case with this pornhub issue - if this petition makes it to the court, maybe at the end, the site won't be shut down but will only have to abide by a certain ruling. The reason why petitions tend to be as drastic as this banning that you so hate is because more often than not, the ruling becomes milder than the desired result of the petitioners. Just because bad things are inevitable doesn't mean people just have to take them by the face. These 1 million+ people chose to fight. If they suffer bad consequences because of their fight, then they're the ones who will be affected anyway, so really, what do you have against them? Actually it kind of does. When you start talking about things that are extremely rare in occurrence then we shouldn’t take dramatic actions to prevent extremely rare tragedies from happening. Any move to chop down coconut trees should not be taken seriously at all because the good they provide far exceeds whatever bad things have resulted from them being around. We should not ban public displays of Christmas lights because some people get electrocuted or strangled by them. We should not relocate deer populations out of suburban areas because some people get into car crashes with them. We should not ban pitbulls because they are statistically more likely to be involved in dog attacks. The problem is that we live in a world where loud, stupid people are listened to far too often now and listening to stupid people on ego trips who have nothing better to do is ruining our society. I mean, pornhub really could improve some policies of theirs but I don’t place much trust in the world we live in now. People demanding it be banned/shutdown might actually succeed. I see, that's a good point. However, I think that one thing about the examples you're giving are most of them are consequences of carelessness or even plain stupidity. While I don't want to belittle those, the thing with the pornhub victims that are speaking up are they are caused by other people, that is, their abusers who recorded the abuse and put it up on the internet for more people to see, and that tortured the victims. Pornhub exploited these videos despite pleas to take them down, and the ones making monetary profit are the website and perhaps the uploaders, and the victims are left with just emotional scars. I don't think these victims are stupid for wanting to shut down the site that caused them great pain. Well I say that, but I also know that this call for shutting down the site is still too small and even short-sighted. As some people here pointed out, the viewers and uploaders could just move on to another site. As you said, there are far too much evil in the world. The only thing this banning could probably do is take off some weight off the victims' chest. It would take a whole systemic modification to change the way things go anyway. I don't know where you're coming from, but I think you're putting too much credit on the petitioners. Even with so many people vouching for the shutdown, the ones who still decide are those with money and power. More often than not, these higher-ups are nasty themselves and it actually seems futile to hope for anything good. I just really hope that this petition will smack some sense into the other porn sites and pornhub (in the case that no shutdown will happen). Porn is good as long as it's consensual on all sides. |

Personally, I think if someone so much as requests the video be taken down, even if its just for privacy reasons, they should be able to do so. I don't think a pornstar should be rendered permanently unemployable just because they were doing porn for a little bit or have one of those situations where prudish parents find out that a school teacher used to do porn and then insist that she be fired. However, as others have mentioned, the person behind this petition seems like one of the sketchy, pro-censorship crowd. |

I think Pornhub needs a new regulating system or something to confirm the ages and consent of the ones uploading the videos but shutting it down will just make people go/create other websites. Free porn really is a tricky thing though and comes with a lot of downsides but I don't really concern myself with the real people porn so I'm not the best person to comment on this. I've know people as young as 12 and 13-year-olds who uploaded things on there though and that's horrible and should be easier to prevent. Either way I'm not concerned with my daily dose of culture cause I got Euphoria and Drop Out always on-hand but I do hope they solve their fair number of issues. |

one million vs untold gorillions of people who use these porn sites. pornhub isn't going anywhere. horny people are many. horny people are profitable. horny people control the industry. not to mention pornhub is just a platform. it's not like pornhub is doing, sponsoring, or actively encouraging human smuggling or whatever other shady activities they're accused of. |

Pretty same thing was going on with Youtube and Twitter and they didn't have to shut down. I suspect there's another agenda at play here. |

You'd have to shut down all porn sites if this was the case. It's not only a problem for pornhub but for other sites as well. |

Pornhub is a psyop from Canada that funded the Confederates in the American Civil War and had John Wikes Booth set up an intelligence network in Quebec before killing Lincoln where until recently anything relating to the French Revolution was banned because is home to Vichy supporters that hate the French Republic and is actually illegal to protest Nazi Statues that litter the landscape because falls under Racism cause they're of ethnic minorities. Trudeau's dad was terrorizing people with German grenades while soldiers were being machine-gunned on the beaches of Normandy. When you fap to Pornhub you're fapping with Hitler and Lee. |

Huh, it would be good if porn Hub wasn't the shit hole it is rigth now, I really think porn sites should be more tigh with the people that upload stuff there. Anyways, shuting it down isn't the best thing to do about the problem and I will not miss it if it is gone so, wharever. |
